RESEARCH INTEREST
We focus on the identification, functional analysis, and application of rice disease resistance genes, as well as the development of novel germplasm using gene editing. We mine and characterize resistance genes against major diseases such as rice blast, bacterial blight, and bacterial leaf streak through GWAS and mutagenesis approaches including heavy-ion and space-induced mutation. We also develop molecular markers to support resistance breeding. In addition, we employ CRISPR/Cas9 and gene transformation to create rice germplasm with enhanced quality, fertility, resistance, stress tolerance, and yield, and integrate marker- assisted selection to accelerate the breeding of elite rice varieties.
