Introduction to the department of seed science and technology
The department of seed science and technology was set up in September, 2015. It is a new department in SCAU. However, we began to enroll four-year program undergraduate students in 2013. Currently, there are all together 12 full-time teachers including two professors and two associate professors. More than 50% of them have overseas educational experience and eight of them have Ph.D. degree. Several research areas have been set up, such as seed dormancy, seed development, seed vigor, seed quality, seed processing technology and the technology of DUS testing in main crops. The department of seed science and technology offers a large number of courses for undergraduate and graduate students, including overview of seed science and engineering, seed biology, seed science, seed production, seed processing and storage, seed testing, seed trade and management, seed health testing, technology of DUS tests on new plant, genetics, crop breeding, advanced seed biology, the principal and technology of seed production.
